Todays puzzle
A peasant is convicted in China. He gets the death penalty. The judge allows him to say a last sentence in order to determine the way the penalty will be carried out. If the peasant lies, he will be hanged, if he speaks the truth he will be beheaded. The peasant speaks a last sentence and to everybody surprise some minutes later he is set free because the judge cannot determine his penalty. What did the peasant said?
The peasant said " I shall be Hanged "....
ReplyDeleteThe peasant said " I Shall be hanged.. "
ReplyDeleteI shall be hanged!
ReplyDeleteReason: If he lies, he will be hanged. So, he speaks the truth. The judge sets him free.
the prisoner will be saying 'i will be hanged", as that was actually he tried to convey. means he speaks truth but if he speaks truth he will be beheaded.,so then it will be determined he was not speaking truth.. judge will be in diellemma so he decided to set prisoner free... cleverly the prisoner escapes the punishment

ReplyDeleteThe peasant said, "I shall be hanged".
ReplyDeletehe said the last sentence in chinese
ReplyDeleteThe peasant said, "I shall be hanged!".
ReplyDeleteIf he lies, he will be hanged. So, what he said was true.
So he must be beheaded.
But now what the peasant said becomes untrue if beheaded.
Therefore, the judge cannot determine the penalty.
Hence, he was set free.
I shall be hanged...!
ReplyDeletei shall be hanged
ReplyDeletei shall be hanged is the last sentence.........he ll neither lie nor tell the truth
ReplyDelete"I shall be hanged".
ReplyDelete-If he is lying he will be hanged so its not a lie,If he is telling the truth he will be beheaded so its not a truth again.so he is set free-
the answer is "i shall be hanged" as it is neither a true nor a lie he will be set free anyway
ReplyDeleteThe peasant said: 'I shall be hanged!' If the peasant was lying, he would be hanged. But that's what the peasant was saying. So he speaks the truth. But if he speaks the truth, he would be beheaded, so then he was not speaking the truth. So it is impossible for the judge to determine whether the peasant is speaking the truth or not. So the judge can't determine the penalty and sets the peasant free.
