todays puzzle:
A man can place 8 large bottles or 10 small bottles in a carton. In one shipment, he sent a total of 96 bottles. If there are more large bottles than small bottles, how many cartons did he ship?
The man should have shipped 11 cartons.
ReplyDelete7 cartons with large bottles, i.e 7*8=56 bottles
4 cartons with small bottles, i.e 4*10=40 bottles
Therfore, 11 cartons in total = 96 bottles
the man can send 12 cartons with 8 large bottles each.12*8=96. 12>0. 12 large bottles greater than 0 small bottles. why its not possible. its nt mentioned anywhere shipment shud hav both large and small bottles....
Delete11 Cartons.
ReplyDelete7 cartons with large bottles=>7*8=56 bottles
4 cartons with small bottles=>4*10=40 bottles.
Totally 96bottles.
Ans for d puzzle:
ReplyDelete7 carton for large bottles -> 7*8 =56bottles
4 carton for small bottles -> 4*10=40bottles
_________________
So he shipped 11 Cartons =96bottles
Totally 11 cartons,
ReplyDelete7 cartons*8 large bottles=56
4 cartons*10 small bottles=40
Total bottles=56+40=96
7-large bottles
ReplyDelete4-small bottles
total cartons= 11
Lets say x be the number of cartons with large bottles and y be the number of cartons with small bottles.
ReplyDeleteHence we get the equation
8x+10y=96 (x>y) where x,y are integers
By solving, we get 7,4 and 2,8 are solutions.
Since x>y, 2,8 is impossible. The possible solution is 7,4. Hence the answer is 7+4= 11.
11 cartons
